The Foundation’s objects are attached as an Appendix for easy reference. Within the framework of those objects, certain directions were adopted by the founding Directors, as follows:

• The Foundation will favour large grants over small grants, in order to concentrate resources where they would have the most impact.
  
  
• For the first few years, the granting focus has been on university-based research. In the next phase, the granting focus will shift to moving out into the community.
  
  
• The Foundation will not just be a passive granting agency, but will get actively involved in managing the granting process.
